Whether you’re an American citizen or not, you will need a social security number in order to be employed in the country. Here is everything you need to know about how to get a Social Security card.

To apply for the Social Security card, you will need certain documents in order to verify your identity, your age as well as your status. It is important for you to keep in mind that the original copies are to be provided in order to verify everything. You may also provide copies but you will have to get the copies certified by the agency responsible for issuing those documents.

To provide the proof of citizenship, you may provide passport or birth certificate. For your age, you will need to provide a document such as a hospital record or passport. For verifying your identity, you will need to provide a document such as a driver’s license or your passport or any other kind of identification card issued by the state. In some cases, you may also apply by providing certain other documents such as an employee ID card, a health insurance card or a student’s school issued ID card and other such documents.

In case any of the above documents are missing, you will need to get a new document. You can easily find the office of the agency responsible for issuing these documents by searching online. In most cases, you will be required to pay a small fee in order to get the documents. Once you have gathered all the required documents, you will need to fill out an application form. This application form is available on the official website of the Social Security Administration. Keep in mind that there are two versions of this application form: one for citizens of the United States and one for others.

Once you have downloaded and printed the application form, it’s important to complete it in its entirety. If you submit inaccurate or incomplete application, it will delay the whole process. Therefore, make sure the application is filled out properly and all the information you provide is carefully checked. Some of the sections in the application are voluntary and you are not required to fill these sections.

Once you have filled out the application from and gathered all the required documents, you will need to visit the office of the Social Security Administration in person. You can easily find the address of your local SSA office by searching online. During this visit, the officials will verify the documents submitted by you to ensure that the documents satisfy the requirements. They may also conduct an interview, if necessary.

In some cases, applicants are also allowed to apply by mail but keep in mind that the original copies of all the documents need to be provided to the SSA office. The documents are returned once they process has been completed but if you do not feel like sending your original documents through mail, you will have to go there in person.
